Looking a carrier up is free here and always will be — the record is public and so is the answer. What you can pay for is the part a lookup structurally cannot do: a pass over your list every day, a webhook when something moves, and a dated log of what moved and when you were told.
A pass every day
Every carrier on your list is re-read once a day, just after FMCSA republishes. You are not paying for a query you could run yourself — you are paying not to have to remember to.
Told, not asked
Authority pulled, insurance filing gone to zero, legal name or address changed: the change arrives at your endpoint. Every delivery attempt is kept, so a webhook that failed is visible rather than lost.
A dated record of it
What the record said, what changed, and when you were told — kept with the snapshot date it came from. Plain history, on the assumption that "when did you know?" is a question that tends to arrive late.

Questions about the plans
FMCSA data is public and other APIs exist. What am I paying for? +
Not the data — that is public and stays public, and the free tier here is real. The paid plans buy two things a raw lookup cannot give you: one normalised record instead of several datasets with different units, and a daily watch that tells you when that record moves. If all you need is a snapshot on demand, take the free tier and spend your money elsewhere.
Why is monitoring the expensive one? +
Because a lookup is a question you already knew to ask. Monitoring is the part that catches an authority revocation or an insurance filing going to zero on a carrier you booked three months ago and stopped thinking about. That is the failure a lookup structurally cannot cover: you would have had to know to re-check.
What does the change log actually keep? +
For every watched carrier: the snapshot it started from, each field that moved, when it moved, and whether the webhook that announced it was delivered. It is a plain dated record of what FMCSA published and when you were told — kept because the question "when did you know?" tends to arrive late.
What does the trial include? +
Both paid plans for 14 days: unmetered lookups and monitoring for up to 25 carriers. No card, and the key is issued on the spot rather than after a sales conversation.
Is there a per-call charge? +
No. Both paid plans are flat. Fair use applies in the sense that a plan is for running your own product, not for cloning the dataset — that limit is in the terms rather than in a meter.
What happens when a trial ends? +
Monitoring stops and the key falls back to the free daily allowance for lookups, so nothing in your integration breaks. Your watch list and change history stay put in case you come back.
How do I pay? +
