The short version
The free lookup needs no account and sets no advertising or analytics cookies. The records it serves are about companies, not people. We keep the minimum needed to run the service and nothing else.
What the data covers
CheckMyCarrier republishes FMCSA public records about motor carrier companies: authority status, insurance filings, fleet size, physical city and state, and filing dates. The source files also contain contact details of individuals; those fields are filtered out before anything is served and are never stored by this service.
If you believe a record shown here contains information about you as an individual rather than about a company, write to us and we will look at it. Corrections to the federal record itself must be made with FMCSA.
What we collect
- Lookups. The identifier you search and its result are cached for up to 24 hours so repeat lookups don't re-query FMCSA. The cache is keyed by the carrier number, not by you.
- Rate limiting. For anonymous API calls we keep a daily counter keyed to your network address, which expires within a day. It exists to stop bulk scraping of the free tier.
- Server logs. Our hosting provider records standard request logs (timestamp, path, status, coarse location) for security and reliability, retained on their short default schedule.
- API keys. If you hold a key, we store the key and the email address it was issued to, so we can contact you about the service.
- Payments. Paid plans are processed by our payment provider as merchant of record. They handle card data; we never see or store it. We receive only the fact of a subscription and the billing email.
What we don't do
No advertising networks, no third-party trackers, no selling or sharing of usage data. Fonts are self-hosted, so loading a page makes no request to any third party.
Your requests
You can ask what we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted, by writing to hello@checkmycarrier.com. Deleting an account's key ends API access for that key.
Changes
This policy may be updated as the service evolves; the date above reflects the latest revision.
